Biography of Karen Stein-Ferguson, J.D., MBA, CCE, DFCP
Karen Stein-Ferguson is President of Digital Data Forensics, LLC, a computer forensic services firm in the Tampa Bay area with roots from Indianapolis. She is an Indiana Attorney and holds two certifications in digital forensics – Certified Computer Examiner (CCE®) and Digital Forensics Certified Practitioner (DFCP.) Karen consults with law firms, in-house counsel, and businesses on their electronic discovery, digital forensics, and legal technology issues, and lectures and educates attorneys on forensics, electronic discovery and changes in the new FRCP rules.
She graduated from Purdue University with a BS in mathematics and graduated with honors from Indiana University earning an MBA. After graduation, Karen worked in industry as a systems analyst, business engineer, partner in a software development firm, and other executive management roles. She spent 20 years managing technology departments for several area businesses and state government agencies. After 10 challenging years in technology, Karen earned her law degree from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis and was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1994. She accomplished this milestone while working fulltime as the Chief Information Officer at Indianapolis' largest law firm. In 2004 Karen became a Certified Computer Examiner (CCE®) through the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners (ISFCE) and another digital forensic certification in 2009 from the Digital Forensics Certification Board. She is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Clearwater Bar Association in Florida, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners. She served as a past board member of the Indiana Forensic Science Initiative, past Vice-Chair to the General Practice Section of ISBA, and past Chair of ISBA's Technology Committee. She also does speaking engagements on electronic discovery, computer forensics and legal technology issues in business and the practice of law.
